March 2000

Greetings all,
I hope that Spring is on the march for all of you. Our Red-winged blackbirds arrived home a week early, just in time to enjoy some 70 degree weather. Of course, in typical Michigan fashion, today those little birdies' are cursing their haste, and shaking and shivering as the snow flies.

Speaking of snowbirds, I am about to join their ranks. From March 18th to the 24th A Taste of Tarot will be on hiatus while I take a delightful vacation to Florida. I wanted to let you all know, so that if you had any burning questions, now is the time to address them. The site will be fully operational until the 18th. From the 18th to the 25th you'll still be able to order a reading, but the orders will be fulfilled on the 25th.

Congratulations to the winner of last month's Tarot drawing! For this months drawing I wanted to try something a little different. My friend, Kris Waldherr, the creator of The Goddess Tarot Deck, (check out her GORGEOUS site) was putting together a book of Tarot Card lay-outs and I offered her my "Burning Question" layout. This one is not even offered on my site yet, but I thought I'd give you mailing-listers a sneak peak. I will offer 2 lucky randomly picked winners a chance to win a "Burning Question" reading. Here's the deal, send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. (feel free to add a note...again, interesting stuff last month guys!!) I'll choose the two lucky winners in a random drawing on Sunday, March 26th (offer void after this date), to celebrate the reopening of A Taste of Tarot. I'll add all the details about the Burning Question, for those of you who are interested, below.

Till next month,
Best wishes,
Pesky

The Tarot Burning Question....

A seven card lay-out by Pesky from A Taste of Tarot

The questioner shares a specific question with the reader. The reader chooses a card to represent that question, and lays it out.

Then, the deck is shuffled, and the cards laid out in the following manner:

Card 1- The Question- Here the reader explains why this card was chosen, and what it has to share.

Card 2- Placed below the question card, This card represents obstacles or supporting influences in reference to this question.

Cards 3 and 4: Card 3 is laid to the right of the question card, Card 4 to the right of the obstacles/supports card. Both these cards refer to the hopes and fears, the worries and desires concerning the question. These cards can be split, one telling about worries/fears and one about hopes/desires or perhaps they will both speak to only one aspect- just worries or just hopes.

Cards 5 and 6: Card 5 is laid to the left of the question card, Card 4 to the left of the obstacles/supports card. Both these cards refer to warnings or messages in reference to the question. They are really suggestions and options from the cards.

Card 7: Possible outcome. Based on what has gone before, this is where things are heading.

If this final card is out of synch with the other cards, take it as a warning or message, and turn over another card.

April 2000

Greetings all!

Here we are entering April, and where I live it's tulips, a time change, and taxes. But really, it's not too many tulips yet, our spring season seems stalled. In fact right this very minute it's snowing. Oh well, at least the time change has given us some brighter evenings. I guess that allows a few more hours in the day to do tax stuff...

Actually, when you think about it, it's snowing in April, we lost an hour of sleep, and the tax deadline is drawing near.... Gee, maybe we all need some cheering up! Do something nice for yourself, give yourself a Tarot reading. It's a wonderful way to do a bit of spring-cleaning for your mind. Visit my page to check out the choices. Have you tried The Conversation reading?

Or, how about an easy way to focus your energies. Burn colored candles. I always burn candles with my readings and often choose a color or fragrance which is reflective of the questions asked. Want to give it a try? I would recommend blue candles for healing, patience, peace and happiness. Purple candles work in much the same way, but also help for visualization and dreaming. Or burn green for prosperity and growth, and black is said to absorb negativity. I love votive candles because you can get a rainbow of colors and scents.

Well, if all else fails to cheer you, there's always the monthly drawing! I've always felt the Spring is a good time for a reading and several years ago I started the Mini-reading as a "Spring Cleaning for your mind" so, to celebrate the anniversary of this reading, I'll offer 2 randomly picked winners a chance to each win 2 mini-readings- one reading in April, and another in May. Sound good? This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. I'll choose the two lucky winners in a random drawing on Tuesday, April 18th. (offer void after this date)

Till next month,
Best wishes,
Pesky

P.S.- I added a free desktop theme , the photos feature flowers from my garden! Think Spring!

May 2000

Greetings all!

It's May, spring is finally here, and for us it came in with a Bang. We had a tornado pass within a half-mile of our house! Scary stuff! We scuttled down to the basement, with the sky an unnatural shade of green and the wind roaring like a locomotive, visions of Dorothy's house in "The Wizard of Oz" dancing in our heads... There was a lot of local damage, but we came through safe and sound. Well, we WERE without power for a day and a half! Yikes- I could never have been a pioneer. We all were whining for our creature comforts within hours of the outage.

With all that excitement it's no wonder I want to focus on some of the milder and mellower influences of Spring. Why not plant herbs and flowers to help achieve a sense of peace and harmony, to cultivate the qualities you want to grow in yourself. Plus they look and smell GREAT! Herbs are a hobby available to us all, whether you're a city mouse who grows yours in a windowsill pot, or a country mouse with an herb patch beneath the open sky.

There are lots of easy-grow kits, and you can visit online sites for planting and growing information, but here's a list of herbs and their meanings to guide your planting choices.
(Information below from an EXCELLENT book, perfect for the beginner or experienced herb hobbyist "The Pleasure of Herbs" by Phyllis Shaudys

June 2000

Greetings all!

I'm writing to you all on a picture perfect day, sunny with a gentle breeze. The peonies and irises are blooming, my climbing rose is bent with a fragrant burden, and the hummingbirds are back! We're on the cusp of summer here, and summer means I'm off to the wilds of the north woods again. I wanted to let everyone know A Taste of Tarot will be on hiatus from June 13th until July 5th. You may still place orders, but they won't be processed or fulfilled until after the 5th.

I'm adding the recipe for "Memory Candles", one of our favorite "up north" projects below, but first, let's talk about this month's free Tarot random drawing. I decided that this drawing would also relate to the season. Spring is passing, and that's a notorious time for the spark of romantic interest. Probably some of those new romances could use a little guidance right about now. Soooo, I'll give two randomly picked winners each one free Love Analysis reading. Enter (once is sufficient) to win one of these free readings (Each a $18.00 value, details here) This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. But hurry! I'll choose the lucky winner in a random drawing on Monday, June 10th. (offer void after this date)

Now, let me share a fun vacation project. Our time "up north" is wonderful, we have the time to play with projects and crafts that we never do at home. One of our favorite vacation projects is "Memory candle making". First, on walks we all gather pretty rocks, shells, or pinecones and acorns.

Then we all choose something to make our candle in- a cottage cheese container, a glass bowl, etc. The finished candle comes out of both of these easily. A potato chip cylinder makes a great pillar candle- but the container must be peeled away when the candle hardens.

Put the wick down the center of the mold. Tie the wick to a pencil or stick to hold it straight, and in place while you continue. Add the "treasures" from your walk; the rocks, shells, etc. For cottage cheese or bowl candles put daisies and sweet fern pressed against the wall of the container, add the rocks and shells next to hold them in place.

Now for the wax; we use boxes of canning paraffin from the grocery store and melt it in a saucepan resting in a larger pan of boiling water... or, a double boiler. (You may want to dedicate an old pan as the "wax pan") Melt the wax, add crayons if you want colors, perfumed oil if you want a scent, and pour it slowly into the prepared container. Try to keep the candlewick straight. Allow to harden, remove from the form, trim the wick- and enjoy! Your "treasures" should glow and be exposed as the candle burns. They are great for the patio or deck!

****Hint- If you have problems getting the candle out of the form, you can put it in the freezer for a bit, to loosen.

***Cautions- If you add flowers, leaves, or anything flammable do NOT leave your candle unattended. The things you added could catch fire.
Be careful melting the wax, it's messy and flammable.

July 2000

Greetings all!
Well, I'm back from my Summer Sabbatical in the north woods! It's my favorite place to be-- as I walked the path beside the lake, the chickadees danced along from branch to branch in from of me, in a kinda "zip a dee doo dah"-rific way. My youngest son developed an uncanny Loon imitation (Do you know what a Loon sounds like? To hear it, click here...) that he would give upon command. It took my father days to get used to it. He claimed it sounded like someone was being strangled, however, when out fishing my son had a Loon answering him, and another joined in! So my father may not have given it the thumbs up, but the Loons did!

Another thing we enjoy up north are fires; whether a beach bonfire, or a blaze in the stone fireplace of my log cabin, the dancing flames hypnotize and cause introspection. One of the things I pondered was control, how we all spend wasted energy trying to control situations or people which are impossible to control, beyond our reach. It can be frustrating and exhausting, because in life all we can really control is ourselves. I have a simple exercise to set yourself free for you to try at your next campfire…
Think about what there is in your life that you are trying to control. Ponder it, and make a commitment to let it go. Describe your resolve on a piece of paper, then put the paper in the fire and let it burn. When you are tempted to go back to your old ways, close your eyes and remember your resolve, remember the flames taking it away, and rededicate yourself to your vow.

**FREE DRAWING: Now, on to the fun stuff! I have chosen "The Celtic Cross" for the free reading drawing, because it seems to follow the theme for this month. The Celtic Cross is an excellent general reading, you ask one question, and the cards expand from there. In this reading, the cards and the layout control the information, rather than the questions controlling the information flow, as in The Conversation reading. It's a chance to let go, and see what the cards have to tell you.

Enter to win a free Celtic Cross reading!
(A $25.00 value, details on http://www.atasteoftarot.com/celtic.htm).
This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. (One entry per person is sufficient.) I'll choose the lucky winner in a random drawing on Thursday, July 20th. (offer void after this date)

August 2000

Greetings all!

I hope you're all enjoying the kind of lovely weather we're having here; warm and breezy days, cool nights. This made it more palatable to return from my second summer break- a family vacation to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

My sister said she always wondered about the contest winners, and thought everyone else might, too. So here you go! Last month's winner of the Celtic Cross reading was Jan D. of Iron Mountain Michigan, who shared this about herself "As for personal info, I am a mom of 4, two in college now! I work part time as an emergency nurse in our local hospital, and truly love my job. My oldest daughter is like you, very interested in Tarot, and in Celtic belief. I am very excited to be the winner of your contest!"

Ahhhh, maybe we'll be featuring YOU next month! <grin> Ready for this month's contest? I've had a lot of orders for Love Analysis readings lately... I think it must be something in the air! In keeping with this, I'll offer two Love Analysis Readings for the free reading drawing this month. Enter to win! (An $18.00 value per reading, details here). This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. (One entry per person is sufficient.) I'll choose the two lucky winners in a random drawing on Monday, August 21th. (offer void after this date)

Now, a little fun! People who identify with the Suit of Pentacles are practical, clever, and also have a need to connect to nature. A connection to nature helps them de-stress and stay on an even keel. I wanted to share a terrific way to save a bit of your vacation and soothe that need for nature at the same time. Make little terrariums- worlds under glass.

You can use many different containers: glass jars, fish bowls, or any clear glass container of your choice. Line the bottom of the bowl with pebbles, and a bit of dirt. Then go on your favorite walk, take a spoon and a box to hold your specimens. (Make sure it's okay to do this, some parks have rules against taking plants, and some plants are protected...)

Look at the ground from a mouse's viewpoint... Dig up tiny trees, little flowers (careful to scoop up the roots and the ground immediately surrounding it) and pretty sticks, stones, or moss. Moss is great filler. In your terrarium a broken stick can look like fallen timber, a smooth stone is a boulder.

Collect all your specimens, and then plant them in your prepared bowl. You really find yourself creating a little world. It's fun to arrange it so it looks like a natural scene (from a mouse's view!)

Be careful not to over water, if you cover the container with a lid occasionally, the humidity created will greatly reduce the need for watering. These terrarium "worlds" are a great way for a Pentacles soul to keep that nature connection strong. Keep your it on your desk, put your nose in the container, and take a deep breath of those fresh and growing smells. It's a soothing thing.

Well y'all, enter the contest, have a wonderful August, and stay strong and happy!
Peace,
Pesky
