October 2000

Hello hello all!
Is everyone ready for Halloween? We're still working on things here. This year the kids are going to be easy- a hippie and a zombie. However, my husband is another story. Some of you may recall last year he grudgingly donned green long underwear and a leafy toga to be the Jolly Green Giant. This year he's going to be a salmon. (I guess BEING one is the next best thing to FISHING for one…) I'm hoping to craft a suitably fishy costume from foam sheets, (think Gumby) wish me luck! If you are desperately seeking costumes, check out this site  for some excellent, unusual ideas.

However, there are deeper meanings to this time of year. Samhain, October 31st, was an important holiday to ancient Celts, signifying the end of summer and start of winter. This is a time to let go of negative influences and pain from the past, to put it behind and step firmly into the future. Further, it's said that on Samhain the line between the world of matter and the spirit grows fuzzy. It's a time to think of deceased loved ones, and leave yourself open to messages they may have for you. Here's a pair of simple exercise geared to the holiday. While lighting the incense of your choice send loving thoughts or say a prayer for a deceased loved one. Smile. This should be a joyous thing to do, not sad. Or, after lighting your incense take a deep breath while thinking about something you'd like to leave in the past, negative energy, or extra baggage. Blow on the incense, and let the smoke dissipate, carrying away the negativity.

November 2000

Greetings all!

Hello everyone! As I write to you we are having our first snow! Not enough for a snowman, but enough to remind us winter is on the march… Brrr! All you Californians will be feeling ever-so-smug!

Looking for something fun to do in this inclement weather? This month I'm including a Tarot Exercise developed by Angeles Arrien and extended by Mary K. Greer, a way to discover your Personality and Soul Tarot cards. (Read more about Mary Greer's theories and book in a great article by Terri Roessler )

A simple look at the Personality and Soul cards-
First, write your birthdate as an addition problem:
Mine- 1/1/61 1+1+1961= 1963
My husband- 9/1/60 9+1+1960= 1970
My daughter- 3/14/92 3+14+1992= 2009

Next reduce to a single number, and if it is 22 or less*, that's your personality card.

1+9+6+3= 19**
1+9+7+0= 17
2+0+0+9= 11

Add the two numbers of your personality card, and that's your soul card.

*If your number is over 22, reduce it again.
(example 1+9+6+7= 23, reduce it one more time- 2+3= 5)
In this case, this number is your personality and soul card. For these single card occurrences, Mary Greer suggests there are other cards which represent "hidden factors"; the qualities in life that teach us or show us what we have to learn.

Numbers- Possible Hidden Factor Numbers-
1 19 & 10
2 20 & 11
3 21 & 12

** Nineteen is a special number, which reduces twice.
1+9= 10 1+0= 1
Number 19 is the personality card, Card 1 is the soul card, and Card number 10 represents creative forces.

Now that you have determined your personality and soul card, what do you do with the information? Here's a site that has information for each card.
Major Arcana cards and meanings
If you'd like to see pictures of my deck, you can see your card here

Or, contact me for a Celtic Cross reading and ask for more info on your personality and soul cards. We'll look into this in more depth, into what these cards have to say to you in relation to what's happening in your life now.

Now, on to the new drawing!
For this months Tarot drawing I'm offering a free Celtic Cross reading, with a focus on your personality and soul cards. (A $25.00 plus value, details here) Enter to win! This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. (One entry per person is sufficient.) Until next month, hope your weather is being kinder than mine!!
Best wishes,

December 2000

Happy Holidays everyone!
Here in Michigan it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas… We have over a foot of snow and my kids have had 4 snow days in the last two weeks! (Insert visual of a stressed and exhausted Pesky…) Driving has been difficult, but it's sooooo beautiful. The trees are snowy and sparkly in the sun; looking off into the woods is like a glimpse of fairyland. The fields are unbroken expanses of white, pristine and lovely. Now, if it would just snow everywhere BUT the roads… <grin>

This month I'd like to focus on another Holiday and a tradition associated with it: New Year's Resolutions. This time of year it's common to make goals of things we want to change in the new year. However, lot's of times these goals fall by the wayside as the year rolls forward.

I offer visualization as an alternative to resolutions. Try to see your success, track your success, and give yourself a pat on the back when you do well. Here's the scoop.

First of all, the key to this is writing things down. Rather than having your thoughts circle and float in your mind , writing helps to anchor them and helps with visualization. Writing a list strips through the confusion, and lends focus. Treat yourself to a blank book or a journal.

Now it's time to make your lists. First, make a list of where you would like to be in five years. Think in realistic terms. Then make a list of what you would like within a year. Spend some time pondering your lists and visualizing yourself accomplishing your goals. Then brainstorm ideas and activities you can do to take these goals from your head and bring them to reality. Try to do something to assist or contribute to the success of your goals each day.

You don't have to be out there changing the world each day; babysteps are totally acceptable. The fact that you are making an effort is what counts. If you are making strides, working toward your goals, you will have more of a feeling of power, of control over your destiny. And when you list your daily contributions, you'll see your progress.

Each day record your goal work, and feel proud of yourself. Don't look at how far you have to go, praise yourself for the steps you've taken. If you feel discouraged, take some time to re-visualize yourself having goal success. Close your eyes, and create the scenes in your mind.

Good luck and happy visualizations!

Now, after all that serious stuff, are you ready for the fun stuff??? For this months Tarot drawing I'm featuring the New Past, Present, Future reading. (A $40.00 value, details here ) I chose this reading, not only because it's new, but also because it's a good reading for the resolution/visualization exercise. This lay-out examines your past, views the present, and gives a glimpse of what the future looks like based on what's gone before. Enter to win!

This is how to enter. Send your email address to pesky@atasteoftarot.com, with "Tarot drawing" in the subject line. (One entry per person is sufficient.) I'll choose the one lucky winner in a random drawing on New Year's Eve, Sunday, December 31st.

January 2001

Greetings all-
I hope everyone passed into the New Year smoothly. I'll share something with you, my birthday is January 1, and I turned…. Choke…. Sob…. 40 years-old. Actually, it wasn't so bad. This last couple of years most of my friends and loved ones have been crossing over into the 40's and I've seen them survive. (It's like watching friends go off a really steep sledding hill you're scared to try- you get to see it's not so bad… <grin>) Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell.

How goes all with New Years Resolutions? Sometimes we all need a little help. Why not call upon the power of stones? Wear jewelry with the stones you needs to bolster yourself. Or get stones from hobby shops and carry then in your pocket or in a pouch around your neck. Whether it's the stones themselves that give us the strength, or the power we bestow upon our talisman, they can be a boost.
